Officially Approved by Global Crypto Payment Gateway Triple A!

After months of due diligence, we are finally accepted by global crypto payment gateway company Triple-A to accept cryptocurrency from our supporters and donors! As of today, besides the standard modes of giving, our donors and supporters can also give via four types of cryptocurrency, namely Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and the two most popular stablecoins, USDC and USDT.

Just How Big Is Crypto?

Global demand for digital currencies is exploding.

According to “The State of Global Cryptocurrency Ownership in 2024” released by Triple-A, there are about 562 million people worldwide who own crypto, up from 420 million in 2023, a growth of almost 34% year on year. In fact, some other facts from the report include:

  • 34% of cryptocurrency owners are aged 24-35, the largest share among all age groups.
  • UAE, Singapore, and Turkey lead among the top 30 economies with the highest crypto ownership rate.
  • Asia maintains its lead in crypto ownership, increasing from 268.2 million to 326.8 million, followed by North America with 72.2 million.

What About Crypto In Charity?

The value of cryptocurrency donations has exceeded USD2 Billion over the past few years. But the total donated is only a portion of the way that crypto has made an impact on social causes. Crypto’s charitable impact is made possible by a vibrant community that includes donors, fundraisers, blockchain companies, NFT creators, and forward-thinking nonprofits.

Some examples include:

1) The Giving Block

  • Annual Donations: The Giving Block, a crypto donation platform, reported over $125 million in cryptocurrency donations in 2022 alone, and they anticipate this number to increase as cryptocurrency philanthropy gains traction.
  • Notable Campaigns: The Giving Block’s “Crypto Giving Tuesday” in 2021 alone raised over $2.4 million for nonprofits, with hundreds of nonprofits now participating through their platform.

2) Vitalik Buterin’s Donation to India

  • Amount: Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin donated approximately $1 billion worth of Shiba Inu (SHIB) tokens to the India Covid-Crypto Relief Fund in 2021 to support pandemic relief efforts in India.
  • Impact: This donation drew global attention to crypto philanthropy, although the volatile nature of crypto meant that the actual amount realised was somewhat lower due to market fluctuations.

3) Pineapple Fund

  • Donation: In 2017, an anonymous Bitcoin philanthropist known as the Pineapple Fund donated $55 million in Bitcoin to various charities, including the Water Project, MAPS, and GiveDirectly.
  • Scope: The Pineapple Fund donated to over 60 charities across diverse sectors, from environmental causes to health and medical research.

4) Ukraine Aid During the 2022 Conflict

  • Amount: In 2022, during the early stages of the conflict in Ukraine, over $100 million in cryptocurrency was donated to support humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and defense. The Ukrainian government set up official crypto wallets to facilitate these donations, which attracted contributions in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies.
  • Notable Contributions: Companies like Binance and individual donors worldwide made significant contributions.

With the growing adoption of cryptocurrency around the world, giving to charitable causes via crypto is bound to increase as well. This is good news for all sectors working in charitable causes globally.
