3 Biggest Reasons Why You Should Give

Whenever I ask people the question, “Why do you give to charity?”, I get a few answers like:

→ I have been blessed in several endeavours, and I would like to give a portion of what I gained.

→ I would like to help others who are less fortunate than me

→ I would like to teach values to my children

→ I would like to forge a sense of camaraderie with my company colleagues

→ I would like to solve a problem, create impact or leave a legacy

While all these reasons are indeed good and commendable, giving to charity also holds profound significance from a spiritual standpoint. In this article, we will explore the top three reasons why you SHOULD give to charity:

1. You Are a Child of God
Regardless of your religious beliefs, the concept of being a child of God carries a profound message. The idea that we are all connected and part of something greater should inspire us to extend love, kindness, and support to our fellow human beings. Giving to charity is a tangible way to express this connection and demonstrate compassion. By offering assistance to those less fortunate, we acknowledge our shared humanity and contribute to making the world a better place.

2.  You Are Made in God’s Image
The belief that humans are created in the image of God carries immense significance. It means that each individual possesses inherent dignity, worth, and the potential for goodness. Giving to charity is a powerful way to honour this divine imprint within ourselves.

and others. When we contribute to the well-being of others, we recognise and celebrate the inherent value and potential of every human being. By uplifting others, we reflect the qualities attributed to God and cultivate a sense of purpose and fulfilment in our lives.

3. Your Life is a Gift
Life is a precious and fragile gift, bestowed upon us by a higher power. It is a blessing that should not be taken for granted. Recognising the inherent value of life compels us to make the most of our time and resources. Giving to charity is an embodiment of gratitude for the life we have been given. By sharing our blessings with those in need, we affirm the sacredness of life and bring joy, hope, and relief to others who may be struggling. The act of giving helps us find greater meaning in our own lives and allows us to leave a positive impact on the world.

Let’s wrap it up….

Giving to charity is a profound and transformative act that transcends mere monetary donations. It is an expression of our spiritual beliefs, emphasising our interconnectedness and the inherent worth of every human being. By recognising ourselves as children of God, made in God’s image, and appreciating the gift of life, we are motivated to extend a helping hand to those in need. Through our acts of charity, we not only make a difference in the lives of others but also experience personal growth, fulfilment, and a deeper understanding of our own purpose.

So, let us remember the top three reasons why we should give to charity and embrace the opportunity to make a positive impact on the world. Ultimately, we must change our vantage point and look at our fellow human beings the way God looks at them.

If we are a child of God, then everyone else is as well.

If we are made in God’s image, then so is everyone else too.

If our life is a gift, it means their life is a gift too.

“Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?”
